A custom saddle starts with the proper saddle tree (saddle tree). Jeremiah Snider at Lone Pine Saddlery prefers to use a wooden tree with rawhide covering. This offers the strength and reliability necessary for hard use. All of Jeremiah's designs stem from his background as a ranch manager at several ranches in Northern Arizona and Colorado. He has found that this type of tree works best and can be custom built to your specifications. The type of horse you ride is also taken into consideration. With different back structures varying from breed to breed, the tree will be built for either your Arabian, American Quarterhorse, Thoroughbred, or whatever you ride.
We also would like the body measurements of your individual horse, if possible (click here for a short tutorial on how to measure your horse). Also, we'll definitely need your measurements (click here for the tutorial on how to measure yourself). Just provide this information to us when ordering your saddle. Then tell us what type of riding you engage in (Working Cowboy, Trail Riding, Rodeoing, All-around Pleasure) and we'll incorporate that into the design of your saddle. The bars will be chosen for the saddle (saddle bars), the cantle type, the swells and the horn are all then added to achieve the type of performance from your saddle you require. From all of this information, the solid beginnings of your custom saddle take shape.
Once the tree is prepared, Jeremiah places the "ground seat" into it. The "ground seat" is the part of the saddle seat which lies under the seat you actually see and sit on. The "ground seat" can be custom-fit to your backside however, your presence would be required for this process. Jeremiah does a very good job of matching your shape even without you there, though. From the "ground seat", the rest of the saddle starts taking shape. Your specific design requirements are also added. The Skirt, the Fenders, the Tooling, the Stirrups, all are customized to your order. You can choose custom patterns to have "tooled" into the leather, special stamping, you ranch's brand, initials, conchos, silver, or just about anything else. Simply tell us what you want and Jeremiah will incorporate it into the custom-built saddle you have always wanted.
Jeremiah's saddles are all made from the
finest materials available. The tanneries where the leather
is produced provide a finished product which is supple, flexible
and stronger than most. It offers better tooling characteristics
as well. The hardware included with your custom saddle is
the best available. Every saddle made is included with 100%
sheepskin linings and comes to you with a thorough cleaning and oiling
see this care process). What you receive will be the finest,
custom-made saddle you have always wanted and a work of art
that is as functional as it is beautiful.
